It was on Saturday, September 28th, that the women’s National Team received, at the municipal pavilion of Tondela, Sweden. This game, the second in group 5 of qualification for the European women’s handball tournament, ended in defeat for Portugal.
The Swedish team showed, from the beginning, superiority in defensive and attacking methods. 38-19 was the final result, thus translating to Portugal’s second consecutive defeat (the first, remember, was in the Czech Republic by 31-20).
The strong Swedish offensive was, throughout the game, a constant challenge for the Portuguese team, both due to the difficulties of the defensive structure and the goalkeepers – Isabel Góis first and Jéssica Ferreira later.
The first half ended 7-15 and the second started immediately with 3 goals from Sweden, increasing the lead to 7-18. As the match progressed, the Swedish advantage was evident – after 37 minutes the score was 22-9.
